Do CBD Products Contain THC?

At this point, you probably know what CBD is. However, if you need a little refresher take a look at our “What is CBD” page. In the meantime, let’s talk about the relationship between CBD (Cannabidiol) and THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol).

Tetrahydrocannabinol is the psychoactive compound in Cannabis that gets you “high.” For many, the cerebral or physical “buzz” is an undesired effect of Cannabis, especially for those seeking only the medicinal applications. Although many strains of Cannabis are CBD rich, those strains also have high levels of THC. Higher levels of Tetrahydrocannabinol  have been linked to negative side-effects ranging from paranoia and hallucinations to failed drug tests.

So how can an extract from Cannabis not contain THC?

One of the major benefits that CBD extracted from Hemp has to offer is the absence of high THC levels. Although Hemp and Marijuana are the same genus and species of plant, the defining characteristic that separates the two, is the lack of the psycho-active substance. In order for a Cannabis plant to be considered Hemp, it must contain less than 0.3% THC. Since the plant itself starts with such a minuscule amount, the extractions often contain even less. In fact, properly extracted CBD Isolates should contain no Tetrahydrocannabinol at all.

Full-spectrum CBD products, on the other hand, will typically contain trace amounts of THC. These products typically come in the form of Tinctures and Capsules, but because the levels are still below the 0.3% threshold, they do not exhibit the negative side-effects associated with higher THC levels. This is an important dichotomy for those with sensitivities, including your pets.

In summary, CBD does, in some instances, contain small amounts of Tetrahydrocannabinol, but Lynx CBD products do not contain large enough quantities to affect most users. If you are sensitive to THC, or subject to drug screenings, we recommend utilizing our isolate slab and powder products. Additionally, we encourage you to only purchase CBD products from sellers who provide independent lab results. As always, begin by gauging your tolerance for CBD slowly over time, as it affects all consumers in different ways.
