What other plants contain Cannabinoids?
CBD is one of over 100 Cannabinoids found in Cannabis; but did you know that Cannabis isn’t the only plant that contains Cannabinoids? A Cannabinoid is “any of a group of closely related compounds that include cannabinol and the active constituents of cannabis,” according to Google’s dictionary. These compounds interact with the endocannabinoid system (ECS) in our body which is responsible for regulating numerous physiological functions. A few of the regulated functions include:
- Appetite/desire for food
- Sensory receptor/perception of pain
The ECS is a complex system whose operation is critical to our daily lives, so it’s no surprise that Cannabinoids can be found in more than just Cannabis.
Here’s a list of other plants that contain Cannabinoids:
Piperaceae/Black Pepper/Piper Nigrum
Spice things up a bit because this ECS activator tastes great on just about anything. In fact, we recommend adding it to your favorite CBD Recipes to bind with your tastes buds and your Cannabinoid receptors.
Chocolate lovers rejoice! The higher the levels of Cacao in that chocolate bar, the more interaction with the ECS there will be.
Christmas ham and eggnog just got a little more appealing. Those aromatic little buds bring a pungent Cannabinoid punch.
Considered a useful plant throughout history and the world, these little plants contain a compound similar to THC, but like CBD it shows no psychoactive properties.
Typically associated with a preventative for the common cold, these pretty flowers are not a cannabinoid, but they do interact with the ECS in a similar manner.
Cannabis is at the forefront of Cannabinoid and ECS study, but if scientific hypotheses are confirmed, we could see a increased scientific inquiry into some of these other plants. This is also just a fraction of plants that are known to interact with the ECS. As our knowledge of the ECS and Cannabinoids increases, the number substances that react with cannabinoid receptors should expand. Hopefully, this leads to scientific advancements that make a difference in our world.
